Bird on a Wire
Fireplace Installation
Dimensions: H 5300 × W 1900 × D 450 mm
Materials: Solid surface (Corian) with dichroic elements
Client: Private residential commission
Location: Tampa Bayshore, Florida. USA
The resulting installation is a poetic abstraction of a bird’s passage through the sky, an expression of freedom, play, and quiet dynamism. Lines traverse the monolithic surface in a fluid choreography, guiding the viewer’s eye across and around the form.
The dichroic elements respond intimately to changing light conditions. In moments of strong directional sunlight, colours are vibrant and even scatter onto adjacent white walls, reflecting softly into the marbled flooring and surrounding glass surfaces. At other times, the material recedes into a subdued glow, calm and peaceful.
Together with the white surface, these materials form a harmonious dialogue, each amplifying the other’s inherent qualities. The work celebrates both intensity and restraint, shifting from vibrant and radiant to subtle and contemplative in response to the sun’s trajectory.
Ultimately, the installation functions as the final, unifying element of the home, a work that completes the architectural narrative. It was a privilege to realise this vision in collaboration with the client.
