Lighting Guide

In this guide you will be taken through the various ways in which you can bring the light works to life.

We have provided an overview of the best lighting techniques we employ; however, there is no right or wrong way to light a CWL artwork. Both the environment and the design of the pieces themselves will have their own unique impact on the visual effects.

The Basics

CWL artworks feature a material called ‘Dichroic ’ (from the Greek ‘dikhroos’, meaning ‘two-colour’).

Dichroic is a colourless optical film that playfully interferes with the passage of light to reveal a vibrant spectrum of colours.

The magic is realised through the material’s ability to selectively reflect certain wavelengths of light, allowing the remaining wavelengths to transmit through, producing two contrasting colours.

These colours change depending on the quality and angle of light; therefore, each CWL artwork has the potential to create soft & muted or strong & vibrant colours in a variety of hues.

This is the same artwork, the only variable is the lighting used. These images perfectly demonstrate how light affects the tone, intensity, and direction of the colours produced.

Understanding your space

Whether you decide to utilise the natural light entering your space or want to add additional lighting, it’s important to understand what light currently exists, and how it is travelling throughout your space.

On a clear sunny day, study the light in your space. Where are the shadows falling? What time is it?

This is a great opportunity for you to take your artwork on a walk. Place it flat onto different walls to find the perfect spot.

Our goal is to ensure that you get to experience the full spectrum of experiences the editions offer. If, after reviewing this guide, you find yourself uncertain about the optimal placement or the most suitable lighting to purchase, we encourage you to get in touch.
